Harrison Kennedy, Live at Harbourfront, Saturday September 2, 2017

Harrison - Live - Saturday September 2, 2017 at Harbourfront, Toronto

Harrison Kennedy has been around. From the Toronto cast of Hair, he landed a gig with The Chairmen of the Board, the Detroit soul band best known for the hit “Give Me Just A Little More Time.”
In more recent times, Harrison Kennedy has established a reputation as a blues player, bringing his rich voice, and deep guitar licks to appreciative audiences around and beyond his native southern Ontario.
A descendent of one of Hamilton’s oldest black families, with more family in Detroit, Kennedy has a million stories and shares some of them when he plays. At the Beaches Jazz Festival a few years ago, he described his extended family’s reunions in Detroit, while he told us story about one of his less popular relatives during today’s appearance at Harbourfront.
His sound is more Son House than Detroit soul, and one can easily forget his early commercial stardom and mistake him for a lifelong blues-man. The rawness of Kennedy’s music and his intense guitar picking should resonate with any fan of deep country blues.
