2019 East Coast Music Awards- Night 3- Black Vibes Stage and Classified at the P.E.I. Brewing Company Saturday May 4, 2019

19.5.4
Reeny Smith, Owen O’Sound Lee, at the Black Vibes Stage, Saturday May 4, 2019, Charlottetown, PEI. ECMA’s.

Scotian Owen O’Sound Lee plays keyboards for many Maritime artists including the ubiquitous (in these parts) Classified. He was playing polished r&b tonight for a short set which got funkier.
Reeny Smith also hit the keys, and played her gospel infused soul. She played solo piano and added back up singers for “Is it Too Late?” off her latest “WW III” album, for which she won Best R&B award at the ECMA’s. Her set included a rousing version of the always popular ballad “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” which got an enthusiastic response. The crowd varied from people listening intently to less considerate types talking among themselves, taking selfies and cheering the loudest after ignoring a whole song.

Classified with Brandon Arnold and KU$H, 5.4.19 at PEI Brewing Company, Charlottetown. East Coast Music Awards.

Classified has a solid reputation for being supportive of Maritime hip hop and music in general. He works with lots of people and puts on a hot show. He had openers KU$H and Brandon Arnold, fresh from the Indigenous stage the previous night, and they brought out more of Arnold’s City Natives crew.
Classified has good flow, and unlike a lot of popular modern hip hop, his music isn’t so bombastic that it can’t be done satisfactorily on stage. Classified comes off like a regular guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously in his lyrics. After a lot years and awards, a few national hits and more than a few Maritime classics, this show brought out an enthusiastic crowd. Further guaranteeing good times, Choclair came out from Toronto for the show. He’s played with Classified a few times in recent years and his surprise appearance wasn’t the best kept secret in town. Classified and the opening rappers reminded everyone there’s some high quality hip hop coming out of the Maritimes.
